The Diva Story Early Access: Script Excerpt part 29

Hey hey!

While this website is being updated and is a bit quirky at times…here’s an old school script excerpt post without bugs 😉

Have a great day!

Sigrid

Hannah thought she was going to faint. She had never been this nervous in her life. But it was too late to go back now. She had already parked in front of Milly’s apartment building.

Everything seemed a little off this morning. She felt like it was late afternoon and it was only 10 AM. Her ears were still ringing from the crowded and noisy flight earlier, even though it was quiet now.

Hannah pulled down the sun visor and looked into the small mirror. There were dark circles under her eyes. She had slept horribly for a whole week and it was definitely starting to show.

There was only one remedy she could think of. Milly. Hannah really wanted to feel Milly’s arms around her. She instinctively knew that, in Milly’s arms, she would drift off into a peaceful sleep.

She longed for it so much, she could almost feel Milly’s hair tickle her flustered cheeks right now. She dreamily ran a finger over her skin.

Hannah abruptly folded the visor back up and focused on the buildings around her. She easily spotted the one where Milly was staying. She had kept the address after sending Milly flowers a few weeks ago.

“Has it only been a few weeks?” Hannah thought. It felt like it had been so much longer. When had she last seen Milly? Hannah counted the nights. “Only 6 nights ago.” She scoffed.

Six long nights. Six lonely nights. Hannah had to admit she hoped she would not have another one of those nights. She hoped she could spend this night with Milly and finally sleep again.

But she wasn’t sure if that was even remotely a possibility. It was hard to guess how angry Milly still would be. Hannah’s only hope was that her heartfelt apology would convince Milly to give her another chance.

She fidgeted with the sleeves of her hoodie. She had chosen something comfortable to wear today. Her coat was lying on the passenger seat. It was a lot warmer in Houston than it had been in New York City early this morning.

“OK, well, better face the music,” Hannah thought and immediately smiled at the unintended pun. “Or the musician, rather.” She took in a deep breath. Her chest felt tight.

“Calm down,” she told herself. “What’s the worst thing that can happen?” She looked down at her hands and tightened her lips into a thin line. “Well, she could totally break my heart…”

Hannah quickly opened the door and jumped out of the car. She slammed the door shut behind her. The sound seemed much louder than usual. Everything here really was so damn quiet this morning.

She wondered if Milly had heard the door. Maybe Milly was watching her from behind a curtain somewhere. Hannah’s stomach lurched. She ran a hand through her hair.

There were several cars parked in front of Milly’s building. She didn’t recognise any of them. Then she remembered Milly had gotten a new car after her window had been smashed. She had no clue what it looked like.

She glanced up at the first floor window. She didn’t see any movement. Or lights. Hannah hoped Milly was already awake. God knows what time she had gotten home after work last night.

“I’ll just knock once and if she doesn’t respond, I’ll wait in the car for a while,” she thought. Hannah pulled open the door of the apartment building carefully. She didn’t want to make another loud sound.

Once inside, Hannah took in the hallway and stairs. Everything was so different from her own NYC apartment building. The carpet here smelled like it had not been vacuumed in ages. She wrinkled her nose.

Hannah knew she led a privileged life. It was just so easy to forget sometimes. She rarely ventured outside of her bubble. “It’s like Milly lives in a different world than I do,” she suddenly thought.

It gave her pause at the top of the stairs. Why had she never thought about this before? “Because I always saw her at work or in some place I picked,” she realised after a few seconds.

There was so much she didn’t know about Milly. So many parts of her life Hannah had never seen or heard about. “Who is Milly behind that diva costume?” Hannah wondered.

She walked up to Milly’s door. “If she lets you in, you better start making an effort to find out,” Hannah told herself. She slowly raised her hand to knock on the door.

But then, with her knuckles still in mid-air, Hannah’s phone started to ring. The loud ringtone made her swear under her breath. She clumsily pulled the device out of her pocket.

“Shut up, shut up, shut up,” she mumbled as she tried to get the ringing to stop. She sighed in relief when the speaker went quiet and the screen turned dark.

But just a moment later, her eyes went wide. “Shit!” she said as she processed the name she had seen flash by on the screen.

Hannah looked back down at her phone and checked her call log. Her stomach dropped. She had just rejected a call from Milly.

That’s it for this week! Everything is on track for early release on Saturday. See you soon 😉

I like that Hannah is now thinking of how Milly’s standard of living is different than hers. I really like her character – the wanting to faint when she gets there and at the end, f’ing up again by turning off the ringer and the shut up part was classic Hannah. Another moment from another episode I liked of Hannah was when she was at the reception the last time and glared at the man in her way of Milly and it turned out she was in his way. Love it!
