Hey there!
I wasn’t planning on releasing an excerpt this week, but I’m recording right now…and I changed my mind 😉 Aiming to release the episode for early listening by Sunday evening (European time). Until then, I hope you enjoy this excerpt of part 15!
“Oh, there’s a table.”
Hannah closed the hotel room door behind her.
“Eh, yes…” She wasn’t sure what Milly was talking about.
“I thought…” Milly put her bag down on one of the chairs in the living room.
Hannah looked at her – crossing her arms.
“You thought what?” She stared at Milly and smiled mischievously.
Milly rubbed her upper arm – looking shy and insecure.
“I thought it would be a normal hotel room… “
Hannah tilted her head – not quite catching on…
“Oh!” She laughed. “You thought we would have to eat on the bed or something?”
Milly shrugged. “Yeah, I guess.”
Hannah shook her head. “No, no, I have a suite. There’s plenty of room. I wouldn’t have invited you up here otherwise!”
Milly tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. “Yeah, of course.”
Hannah lowered her arms. “You sure you want to stay? We can go somewhere else or … “
“No, this is nice.” Milly looked around the room. Her eyes fell on the small open kitchen. “Wow, we can even cook.”
Hannah followed Milly’s gaze. “There’s only water and beer in that fridge, I’m afraid.”
Milly giggled. “Why am I not surprised?”
Their eyes met.
“What, you think I never cook?”
“Do you?”
“Does grilled cheese count?”
“No…”
“Then I don’t. Not a lot.”
Milly smiled. She walked over to the glass door by the balcony. Her dark hair was pulled back into a loose pony tail.
“That’s a nice looking swimming pool.” Milly commented.
“Yeah, I haven’t tried it yet.”
Milly opened the door and stepped onto the small balcony. A breeze immediately started playing with her hair and some strands escaped from the thin elastic band wrapped around it.
Hannah enjoyed watching Milly standing on the balcony. She looked so relaxed – so comfortable – like she belonged here. Hannah wanted her to belong here.
“She’s in love with someone else, you moron” she reminded herself. “Even if she wasn’t, she’s off limits. And probably not interested.”
Milly turned her head and met Hannah’s gaze. Her dark eyes were filled with a longing Hannah hadn’t seen before. They seemed to reflect what Hannah herself was feeling. Milly looked away.
Hannah cleared her throat. The back of her neck was tingling. She walked over to Milly and leaned against the open door.
“You know, they sell swimsuits in the shop downstairs”
Milly grabbed the balcony railing and looked down.
“Do they really?”
“Yup. I checked because I didn’t bring mine.”
Milly straightened up again. Hannah only now noticed how close she was standing to Milly.
“I don’t think this is a place where you’re allowed to go skinny dipping.”
Hannah laughed. “No. They’d probably arrest us!”
Milly turned her head – her eyebrows raised.
Hannah realized she had just added the mental image of them together – naked in the water – to this conversation. Oops.
