Milly’s Performance, the inspiration

I went into total opera mode again today and I bumped into this old video. I now realise I based the scene of Milly’s recital (part 5) on this performance which I have watched many times already.

Watch the singer ‘change’ as soon as the music is about to start. She goes from a glamorous smile to looking like an absolute mad woman in the fraction of a second. (God, I love that moment)

Now, as you know from the podcast, a recital only has a singer with an accompanist (piano). But here, the singer is accompanied by an orchestra (so, it’s a concert :)… and the effect is amazing.

Singers do act in a recital as well. So even though Milly didn’t have that orchestra, she was just as dramatic during her performance 😉

Enjoy! Singing starts around second 25. My absolute favorite moment is at second 52, ‘Miiiisery’ (translated), because it’s so darn convincing…Gets to me every time!

OMG, this performance is to die for! Thanks for sharing.
I am getting little by little into exploring opera a bit more. Not my usual classical style to listen to, but… I am finding the magic behind the singing. Thanks!

They do say it’s the ultimate art form ^^ But it’s an acquired taste. Who knows: maybe you’ll end up head over heels with it too 😉 (I went from ‘I might enjoy it’ to ‘I enjoy it’ to ‘I love it’ to ‘I need it’ to ‘what do you mean I can’t see a live opera every day?!’ in the last 3 years or so 😀 Scared what’ll come next 😉
